Saturday 27th February is scheduled as Centre Championship Day

The Centre Championships are scheduled for Saturday 27 February.  Entry into the Centre Championships is by nomination only and costs $12.50.  There are medals for placing first, second and third and this is the only day that athletes can set centre records or become age champions.

Each athlete nominates up to 5 events for the day and nominations must be received by the 14 February (we will be taking them at the regional championships.  The Under 6 athletes will compete in 5 set events (70m, 100m, long jump, shot put and discus) and will have 2 age marshalls to escort the athletes to their events, all other age-groups can select their events from the standard set of events that they gain McDonald's achievement levels for (which is all but the practice events for their age-group).

Attached is a copy of the nomination form (with current centre records) and a draft program for the day.  The program attached will be modified based on the number of nominations that are received.  Athletes nominating for walks will need to be ratified by the event committee.  Only the longest walk per age-group is offered.

For parents, this is the one-day that we need to get the officiating spot-on.  Greg will be communicating with you soon regarding chief official appointments and protocols on the day.  Essentially we do things by the book on the day and any records broken are ratified by the arena manager or a referee.  To give you an indication of how serious we are - we will weigh the throwing implements before competition.  There will be a lot of help required on the day as we need 9 place judges and 10 timekeepers, starter and a starters assistant, track marshall plus 4 helpers per field event, walks judges, clash judges etc.  So please don't be shy, there are no age-marshalls required for the day (except the 2 x Under 6 ones).  At this stage there will be no Tiny Tots program on this day.

There will also be a working bee on Thursday 25 February to get the arena looking its best.  If you can help with that please drop me an e-mail and we will let you know what time there will be people at the ground and what jobs there are to do.

There are also plans afoot to have photographers there get some great action shots of your child/ren for you to purchase as a keepsake with the profits going back to the club.

Remember also that this Saturday is your last chance to nominate for the regional championships (13-14 Feb).  If there are any officials who'd like to assist on the weekend - please let me know.
